An American Airlines Jet made an emergency landing today after circling over North Texas for over 2 hours. American Airlines flight 1654 left Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport headed for Baltimore around 5:00 PM today. Shortly after takeoff one of the tires aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft blew and the captain declared an emergency. The aircraft was told to circle the airport to try to burn fuel in an effort to try to bring the aircraft safely to the ground.
After circling the North Texan skies for 2 hours the aircraft finally landed right before 7:00 PM. The passengers were taken to gate C4 where they safely left the aircraft. A passenger told NBC 5's Bianca Castro that the passengers will be put on another aircraft to Baltimore/Washington airport.
