About Your News-Team

I thought it would be a good idea for not only all of our members to know who writes their news articles, but for each of us 'news-writers' to know stuff about each others aviation backgrounds etc.

Well, as you can see, my name on here is 'Buxy'. A bit random you may be thinking, but I'll explain later! Anyway, about me. I was born and live in the United Kingdom, the county of Somerset to be specific. As you probably now from reading some of my posts, my grandfather was an aviation engineer/ground mechanic for the RAF, British European Airways, British Oversea's Airways Corporation and British Airways. I have always been fascinated by aviation and have been attending airdays since I was about 8 years old. The county of Somerset and the surrounding areas have a very strong aviation presence. Bristol is located about 25/30 miles north of me. This is where you'll find Bristol Airport and the now closed Filton Aerodrome. Airbus has a base at Filton and it is where wings for many Airbus aircraft are constructed. Engine maker Rolls Royce are also based at Filton. To my west is the town of Yeovil. This is another aviation hub and has two aerodromes, both military. Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton is located slightly north of the town while Yeovil/Westland Airport is located in the industrial area of the town. As you may be able to tell from the name of the second aerodrome, Agusta Westland are based in Yeovil and use the Yeovil/Westland airport as their testing facility.

As for me, I'm learning to glide; this brings us nicely onto the issue of my username 'Buxy' - that is in-fact part of the registration of the club's tug aircraft (G-BUXY) Tongue

A few other bits:

Airbus or Boeing? Well, if I had to pick I'd say Airbus, primarily because they are based so close to me. I also think that Boeing are a great company. But honestly, I'm more of a Bombardier fan!

Main field of interest in aviation? I'm really interested in two aspects of aviation, you could probably guess from my articles so far. Safety and innovative technology do it for me.

What over non-aviation interests do you have? I'm a big fan of Cricket and I support (of course) my home team 'Somerset County Cricket Club'. I also love F1 and support both Jenson Button and Valterri Bottas. I watch the new Formula-E championship (similar to F1, but with fully electric cars.) I'm also interested in meteorology and the weather (but that's sort of aviation related.)

What sort of music do you like? I'm really fond of a Swiss band called '77 Bombay Street'. I'm also a fan of Rod Stewart, Paul McCartney, the Beatles, the Beautiful South and many, many other artists Wink

What do you want as a career? Well, ideally a commercial pilot - it's been my dream for ages. Other options include air traffic control or I could go to university and study Air Transport management or Meteorology. Basically I'll take any job that gets me into the aviation sector! I'd love to combine my love of flying and my interest in safety by joining the Air Accidents Investigation Branch nearer the end of my career.
