Ohh sorry, since you just said the value of 51% I'd asumend this ment the airline didn't own then (they already have them), Would it not therefore make more sense to have the purchasing airline have to buy out the remaining share?

No, because with only 49% of the shares, than the purchasing airline would still have no control.

But surly the purchasing airline has to buy out the remaining share holders - that's the whole point.

I thought you meant that the airline should only purchase the 49%
