Double-Ten Day
#1
Today is the 103rd anniversary of the founding of Modern China (both Natioanlist and Communist), also known as Double-Ten Day. The Republic of China was founded on October 10th, 1911 after sixteen failed revoultions against the unpopular Ching Dyansty (the 17th, known as the Hsin-Hai revolution, succeeded in overthrowing the Ching.)

The revolution arose mainly in response to the decline of the Ching Dynasty, which had proven ineffective in its efforts to modernize China and confront foreign aggression, and was exacerbated by ethnic resentment against the ruling Manchu minority.

Both the Republic of China and the Chinese Communists in Mainland China consider themselves the legitimate successors to the aforementioned revolution.

October 10 is commemorated in the Republic of China as Double Ten Day, the National Day of the ROC (Republic of China). In Communist China, Hong Kong and Macau, the same day is usually celebrated as the Anniversary of the Hsin-hai Revolution. Many overseas Chinese also celebrate the anniversary in Chinatowns across the world.

Long live the Republic of China!

Happy anniversary China!

But Why can't you just say twenty instead of double ten? Tongue

Lol...."é›åç¯€" (shuang-shih-jye) sounds better than saying "é›äºŒåç¯€â€œ (shuang-er-shi-jye.) There's a nice ring to it....

Anyways, happy birthday, Republic of China!

Of course, Taiwan is a part of China-that is to say, the Republic of China, not Communist China. They failed in taking Taiwan province-we've used the metal from their shells to make kitchen knives! You know, if you come to Kinmen Island, you can buy a kitchen knife made out of the metal that came from the shells.

An ROC Navy tank landing ship (LST 210, Chung Lung (中æ¦)) was anchored near the PLA's landing site on October 25, and used its significant firepower to destroy beached PLA landing craft, again made up mostly of wooden junks and fishing boats, during the battle. LST 210 was supposed to leave on the evening of October 24 after offloading its cargo, but remained, offering an official excuse of "bad weather". The unmentioned real reason the ship remained in the area was that it was running a side business of smuggling brown sugar from Taiwan island in exchange for peanut oil. However, there was not enough peanut oil on the whole island for the deal, so the ship was forced to stay for another day while waiting for more peanut oil to be produced, making it the accidental hero of the battle of Kuningto (古寧頭之役).
