The Internet and the U.S. Gov't
#1
i just read the following article and I am both concerned and disgusted.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/haroldfurcht...-increase/

Summary:
The FCC, a commission that is tasked with regulating telecommunications, is seeking to step out of its congressional authority to impose a 16.1% tax on Internet broadband.

Congress has already passed laws prohibiting the taxation of Internet by state and local governments. But of course the FCC, already pushing to end net neutrality (they want ISP's to slow the Internet and make websites pay for faster loading times; even Obama is against it), is once again trying claim that the Internet is under their jurisdiction, under a crazy interpretation of the Communications Act of 1934, passed years before the Internet or even complex computers even existed.
The full 333 page document of the act: http://transition.fcc.gov/Reports/1934new.pdf
The act states that The FCC has authority to regulate communication by wire or radio. The Internet is not a form of communication. It is a file sharing and data transfer system. Yes you can send emails, but the Internet isn't primarily for communication.

This is appalling and sad. Although as my favorite quote goes, "Eff the government"
