Slots + Gates
#1
Ok, so here's my idea with slots & gates:
So, we have slots as a fee based on airport usage and plane size, but then I thought to myself, "how can an airline have a presence at an airport?". So *bam*, I thought up gates.
If you rent (monthly) a gate at an airport, you get 50 free landings per month (as in, you don't have to pay the slot fee), and an airline can secure it's presence at said airport.
If you don't, then you simply pay the slot fee every time you land.
Of course, the price would be significant, although not more than the average slot fee*50.
And, of course, gates would be limited. I think we could use real-world gate numbers, although some small airports may not have any gates available.
What do you guys think?

Just a question:

If I have an airline in a little airport and I have a big number of planes maybe I´m going to full the slots capacity there and maybe I will have a lack of landing and departing rights. Worst of all, the other airlines can´t land there.

How to deal with it?

As I said, if there are no gates left, then you just pay the slot fee for each landing. If you've used up your 50 free landings, then for landings 51+ you will have to pay the slot fee.

And just because there are no gates left does not mean that other airlines can't land. They will just have to pay the slot fee.

I'm personally concerned with how you plan to get real world gate numbers for smaller airports.

Many of the smaller airports don't have gates. If they don't have gates, or we can't find the number of gates, then 0 gates would be fine. It doesn't stop airlines from travelling to them.

Here's another question:
IRL, you don't just call up an airport, say "give me x gates", and then *poof* a desk with your airline's logo appears.
Should a gate purchase be instant, or should it take, let's say, 24 hours?

For the challenge world, I think there should be a certain time period. For the other world, I'd say just give them the gates and desk as soon as they purchase it.
